It's week two of our biggest loser challenge and Monday was our weigh in, which, after a 1.4 pound gain, left me a little less than satisfied.
I ate healthy all week (except for one day where I went over my calorie goal) and I exercised more than usual (though not as much as I could have). Overall, based solely on calorie intake vs output I should have lost about 1.5 pounds. Of course weight loss isn't an exact science.
So, after much research and thought I have a new plan... yup...exercise. Not just walking on breaks at work but full on, heart pounding, sweat dripping, knees aching, hard core exercise.
If I survive I'll let you know!

Today is a day of struggle...
I know what has to be done. I know that mother nature, with her gorgeous, sunny (though chilly) day, is giving me the opportunity to do what needs to be done and yet... here I sit.
I should be walking to the grocery store and then cleaning the backyard while it's still daylight. If not, I should at least be cleaning the house, bringing the treadmill upstairs and doing laundry... and yet I sit typing instead.
What is the magic word to get my lazy ass in gear?
Cellulite...
Yup... that did it! Ta!

Are we not speaking the same language?
A customer service representative, speaking to a well educated person, recently had this conversation. (readers digest condensed version provided below)
Customer: Can I return this and get my money back?
Representative: No
(6 months later)
Customer: I just got my new statement that says I owe for this thing but I didn't pay for it, can you help me?
Representative: Sure. (after some investigation) Okay so I see you asked for a credit and were denied but then you still didn't pay for the item; therefore the amount is still owing.
Customer: Okay. Can you have it cleared from my statement then? We didn't pay because we wanted a credit.
Representative: No, I can't clear it from your statement because the credit was not approved. You should have paid for the item.
Customer: Okay. So, do I just ignore it then?
Representative: No, you pay for it.
(silence)

Day One - The Weigh In
So today is officially the first day of the Biggest Loser challenge. Everyone participating weighed in for the first time! Many people were nervous and a few were disappoint with their results but it's only the first day.
I thought it was going to be a lot more nerve racking then it was. I think I'm just comfortable with being fat. I thought I'd be embarrassed to have someone see exactly how much I weigh but I wasn't. I guess I just realized that they already knew. I mean, it's not rocket science... fat chick = large number on scale... I'm a big girl; but I won't be for long!
After tracking my calories for a few days I'm starting to get a handle on portion size and am able to ensure that I'm getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients. Now I need to concentrate on getting exercise!
Step One: Walk on Break and Lunches
Step Two: Take a walk in the morning and or evening
Step Three: Get back into working out in the mornings.... that's going to be the toughie!
While I'm here I have to say that Caleb and Trinity have been the most wonderfully supportive people as I prepare for this challenge. I don't think I could do it with out them!

Biggest Loser Challenge
I signed up for a "Biggest Loser" challenge at work. We all chip in $20.00 and commit to trying to lose as much as possible in 10 weeks. At the end of the 10 weeks whoever loses the highest percentage of their body weight will win the money.
From what I've read the healthy and safe amount of weight loss per week is 2 lbs. If I stay on track and keep a steady safe pace I should lose about 20 pounds which is only 7.69% of my body weight. (and probably not enough to win the challenge)
My health is more important than the money though so 20 lbs is the goal I've set.
Today I had an unexpected day off so even though the challenge doesn't start until Monday I decide I should take the time today and come up with a game plan and see where I currently am.
So after taking a nice long walk with my sister (walked for about 2 hrs 15 mins all told), I signed up for a free account with Calorie Count at About.com (http://caloriecount.about.com). The site lets me track my calorie intake and burn as well as my weight lose (plus there is a support network of people and a lot of extra little features).
Once I inputted what I have eaten today (which didn't seem like a lot) I found out that I really am not eating as healthy as I thought (I'm sure this isn't news... how else did I get so big!) So now I am about to create a meal plan.
Also, I found out that the sporadic exercise I get is not enough to counter act the over eating (also not news) so I'm also creating an exercise plan.
Monday I officially start the challenge and after the 10 weeks I intend to keep up with my weight loss plan. My ultimate goal is to lose 100 lbs by June 2011 which will put right in my healthy weight range for the first time in 13 years!
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
