This weekend was just go go go. Worked late on Friday, went to Woodend with some great friends on Saturday for a nice hike. Afterwards we went to Avondale Dairy bar for an ice cream... yum! Then a small jaunt to Sunshine Express to buy a tomato plant (and found a very nice flower for my front stoop.) Once we were all shopped out we went home and just enjoyed what was left of the day.
On Sunday we went for a hike to Balls Falls. The water level was low so we were able to walk out into the river and stand on the edge of the upper falls where a nice couple offered to take our photo.
We had a great time walking on the river and took a quick jaunt down to the heritage buildings and the look out over the lower falls.
It was so hot out Trin and I decided to cut the hike to the lower falls short and convinced Caleb to take us and Trins two friends to Pearson Park where they were able to play at the splash pad and Caleb and I were able to sit and relax in the grass.
After dropping Trins friends off at home we went to Perkins for dinner and then went to Andrew's to play Settlers of Catan. We were a little early so stopped at two parks on the way and let Trin play on the equipment.
We had a great time visiting with Andrew but then it was time to go home and go to bed.
With the work week ahead of me I am really looking forward to next weekend!

Beginning of Week Ten
Today is the beginning of week 10. The last week. However, since it is a stat holiday we won't be weighing in until tomorrow.
I think I've been pretty bad this week and may have overdosed on the carbs but hey... there's no way I'm going to win the challenge so I may as well relax and just do my best.
My ultimate goal is to be down to 150 by next June. That's the goal I'm going to focus on because that's the one that matters.
Then comes the big challenge of keeping it off but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Stressing about my weight won't help me loose it so...
In other news we had a wonderful long weekend. Saturday was a pajama day and yesterday we went for a short hike and laid in the grass at the park, had a picnic etc and today we went to Caleb's uncles to celebrate his sisters birthday. Afterwards my sister and I went for a 10 km walk.
I'm pretty pooped. Going to take a shower and then head to bed. Poor Caleb's been sick so we're making it an early night.

Beginning of Week Nine

12:47 am - Something wakes me up. I'm not sure what it was but all of a sudden I'm wide awake. Then I hear it. A small cough from Trin's room as if she's clearing her throat. I've heard her cough in her sleep many many times but something about this cough made my mommy senses tingle.
I get to her bedroom door hoping to see her sound asleep in bed but instead there is movement... she's awake... not a good sign.
"Are you okay?" I ask "What's wrong?"
"I puked." she says in that poor little girl voice.
I quickly think back. Did I hear footsteps in the hall? No. No I did not. Uh Oh.
"In the bathroom?" I ask.
"No" she answers and points over the side of the bed.
"Okay, let's get you cleaned up." I say as I peel back not one, not two, but three heavy blankets.
Now all you mothers out there you do the math. Child has dinner, goes to a baseball game (as a spectator) and on the way home the parent she is with buys her a McDonalds Happy Meal with a milkshake (at 8:00 pm. I found out when she got home at 8:30pm). The child stays up until about 10pm then goes to bed wearing pjs and buries herself under three heavy blankets on a nice warm spring evening. Her window was closed and the fan in her room was off.
Silly girl... all winter long I fight with her to sleep under a blanket and as soon as it's warm enough to sleep with just a sheet that's when she decides to put blankets on her bed.
So she over heated and all of that McDonalds that was just sitting in her stomach ended up on her floor. Great way to spend on hour at 1:00am.
Of course Caleb slept right through until I was done with clean up. That boy can sleep through anything!
It is now 10:30 am. We want to go to the market and have to go grocery shopping but Trinity says her tummy still hurts and she just wants to play video games. Personally I think she might be milking it.

Caleb just introduced me to Emiliana Torrini, specifically her song "Jungle Drum" which is on her newest album "Me and Armini". The song is fantastic! In fact I enjoyed the song so much I had to look up some of her other work. Turns out she has many good songs though none as catchy as "Jungle Drum".
I also found a wonderful rendition by her of "Sound of Silence". Her vocals were absolutely beautiful for that song.
Check her out... it's worth a gander!

Beginning of Week Eight
Yesterday marked the beginning of week eight on our biggest loser challenge. I lost the 0.2 lbs that I had gained last week. I was hoping to be down a little more than that however I didn't get to go out walking much last week because of the rain and I just couldn't will myself to exercise much at home and although I was pretty good in the food department I still probably ate too many carbs.
Ah well, this is a whole new week! I walked 8km with Shel and Sherri last night plus the 2-3 km at work yesterday and today. I also managed to get up early and work out with my personal (virtual) trainer this morning which was great.... going to try again tomorrow. I'm hoping to be down 5 lbs next week... it'll be a milestone for me.
I hope the rain holds off tomorrow... would like to go for a walk. Come on Mother Nature... work with me here!

Another great day
Today has been another great day. We lazed around the house all morning, Caleb playing Final Fantasy and Trin, her friend Brittany and I watched The Princess and the Frog which was pretty good. After lunch we decided to drive down to Port Dalhousie.
On the way, a pick up truck was in the on coming lane and all of a sudden a big green futon mattress came flying out of the back of their tuck and landed right in front of us. Luckily it didn't land on the car... but it was close. Scared me half to death! Honestly what stupid hick thought it was a good idea to just throw the mattress in the back with out tying it (or at least weighing it) down!?!
When we got to Port we headed for the beach, dipped our feet in the lake. The we walked up and down the beach and the pier. The water was very choppy and the wind picked up a lot while we were out. At one point I was just wishing I had the video camera because there was this seagull just past the end of the pier that was flying into the wind but the wind was so strong he ended up just hovering there for a good 30-45 seconds. Then he dove towards the water and came up with a fish. It was so neat.
On our way home we stopped at dairy queen and got blizzards. I only ate about half and most of that consisted of banana, pineapple and strawberries since they put all the fruit on top and didn't mix it very well. Still, I'm a little disappointed in myself.
Anyway, after we got home we decided to go for a walk around Leaside Dr. It was a very enjoyable walk. We saw the cutest little dog carrying his stuffed animal and got to smell all sorts of flowers and listen to the rustle through the leaves. It was a shame it had to end.
Now we're at home. I'm going to make dinner and then we have to hit Walmart to buy me a pair of runners. Hoping to be walking with the girls tomorrow.
All told we walked about 6.8 kilometers. (2.3 km in Port and 6.5 around Leaside Dr.) Not too shabby and I think that makes up for the blizzard. Going to try and do some crunches tonight before bed too.
